ABOUT THIS TRIP
DAY 1
Depart for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
DAY 2
On arrival, transfer for lunch and check in hotel.
In the afternoon the City Tour of Ulaanbaatar includes the Gandan Monatsery, Sukhbaatar Square, Bogd Khan’s Winter Palace and National History Museum.
DAY 3
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for flight to Murun, the capital of the northern Khuvsgul Province.
Continue to the Khuvsgul Lake, also known as the Blue Pearl of Mongolia (110km). It is located two kilometres above sea level in the northernmost province of Mongolia. The lake’s unbelievably clear water is still untouched by industry and modern urban life, so much that one can see every detail of fish that are a dozen or more meters under water. Lake Khuvsgul, the second largest fresh water lake in Central Asia, contains two percent of the world’s fresh water. It is supplied by some 96 rivers that flow into the lake.
Walk along the lake shore and enjoy the scenery. Dinner and overnight stay at the Ger Camp on the lake shore.
DAY 4
Take a full day to explore the breathtaking lake and surroundings. Experience horse riding along the lake. Visit local reindeer family living in traditional dwellings, yurts and have photos taken petting the reindeers. The Dukha’s people, also known as reindeer herders with their unique culture that has for centuries involved sustainable use of products from reindeers and the taiga. Sadly, this lifestyle is now being threatened by the encroachment of the modern world. Enjoy an hour-long motorboat excursion on the lake.
DAY 5
Drive back to Murun for flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, visit “Gobi”, the longest established and the largest cashmere factory in Mongolia. Enjoy a factory tour to learn how the raw cashmere collected by nomadic herders is magically transformed into a fashionable garment. You will then visit the Zaisan Hill Memorial before checking into your hotel.
DAY 6
After breakfast, drive to the biggest statue of Chinggis Khan (55km). This complex located in Tsojin Boldog Hill is 40m tall and made of stainless steel and is considered the tallest equestrian statue in the world. Here, the largest private collection of artifacts from the Hunnu (Xiongnu) and Chinggis Khaan’s periods of Mongolia is on display. Visitors also can get to the top of the statue to enjoy the breath taking view.
Continue to Terelj National Park (30km). After lunch, we will visit the Turtle Rock, an interesting rock formation looking like a turtle. Hike to the Aryabala Meditation Temple (or alternative) to enjoy the view of Terelj valley.
Dinner and overnight stay in Ger Camp.
DAY 7
Leave early after breakfast, driving along the southern banks of Tuul river past Ulaanbaatar and arrive at the Mongol Nomadic Show to experience the centuries-old Mongolian traditional nomadic way of life. Visit a small Ger encampment to see the making of dairy products with an opportunity to taste. Try yourself in leather tanning and felt making. Opportunities of yak and camel riding. Enjoy a very traditional Mongolian lunch.
Return to Ulaanbaatar.
DAY 8
Transfer to Ulaanbaatar Airport for flight home.
